Why Are We A Fatter People Now?

While trying to find things pertaining to being overweight, my husband and I have been scouring the internet. We Americans (and I’m sure we are not alone) have turned to fast food for many reasons. Some of us are just too tired to come home after a long day of working for a living, and make a good hearty healthy dinner. Instead, we may stop by McDonalds for a burger, or Pizza Hut for a Pizza. Some of us might call our spouses and ask them to meet us at the mom and pop restaurant on the corner, you know the one. On the weekends, we just might not feel like 3 square meals a day so we step out again, and before we know it, we find ourselves eating dinner out 3, maybe 4 nights a week, not to mention lunch on our working days.
My husband found this website called “this is why you’re fat “.. go ahead, check it out, we’ll wait. When you finish looking, leave me a comment and tell me what you think. Oh and don’t forget to have some Pepto ready, you’ll need it!

Even when people eat at home, most rely on prepackaged foods of some sort (e.g. Hamburger Helper), most of which are laden with modified foods (like high fructose corn syrup). Processed foods make up the bulk of the diets of people in the US. And those who want to lose weight turn to products like Lean Cuisine and Weight Watchers which are loaded with additives and chemicals our bodies don’t process well (most of which are derived from either corn or soy). It’s such a scam!
Oh yuck, that Turbaconucken almost made me gag!
In general, convenience wins out over slaving over a hot stove yourself.. so yeah, fast food, eating out, processed simple meals… all laden with junk we don’t need, yet we consume in greater and greater quantities.
The Turbaconucken…gross. Sadly the unhealthy food tastes so much better than steamed broccoli. Lol
Okay - I want to be the mother of the kid that piled up that Oreo cookie. I mean, can you imagine hearing that explanation? No, really, mom, I NEED the whole package to take this picture, see?
Lynne: I agree, but I also know that after I have slaved over a dinner, it doesn’t taste half as good as it would have if someone else had cooked it, so yeah I’m a fast food junkie!
Justjessi: I know, I gagged looking at most of this stuff.. did you get a load of that corndog pizza?? :b
Chameleonsdream: Yeah really! this is where I would say something like “ok, you NEED the whole pack?? Ooook… YOU buy it!”
Thanks for all your comments.. I love a good “gross food” talk!!
Omgosh! Some of that food is so nasty lookin’! Some of it though, looks purdy darn good to me! I’m crazy when it comes to food!!!
Interesting website. Thanks for sharing.

justjessi: I don’t know about the fast food vs. broccoli thing. My son (now aged 11) eats broccoli, both raw and cooked, like it’s going out of style. He’s a big salad eater, too. But he also loves his fast food. *sigh* If I could only get him to eat spinach…
The good news is that these all look incredibly disgusting to me! Yeah! No heart attacks!
The bad news is, I’m still fat.

Oh my god that sandwich looks… amazing…
Oh i want it. Like now… that’s so much bacon and cheese… and bacon and cheese…
brb.
I look at lists like this and I get hungry. I don’t know if I should be ashamed or amused.
It also makes me sad that the site doesn’t provide context for the food. Many of the items (like the two foot high oreo) are one of a kind experiments. Also, some of them (like Snicker’s pie) are fine in moderation.
Then again, Luther Burgers (the bacon cheeseburger on Krispy Kremes) probably shouldn’t be eaten anywhere by anyone for any reason. This does not stop me from wanting to try it.
Wow, so many responses to this! I like it!
You’re all correct in that some of it looks disgusting, but I must admit, some of it looks interesting enough to actually try! Most of it looks like a heart attack on a plate though.
LordFluffy: I thought the same thing, I wished for more on each item as well, unfortunately, it wasn’t offered on the site. I’m sure we could google it and come up with something though.

SKWGuitar: You are too funny!
Oldwestmom: Me too!
dncresearch: I like broccoli. and my kids always liked it too, and neither of them are fat.
lunaticg: I know that American’s are not the only ones who like fast food, but we do have WAY too many fast food restaurants here, it seems there are 2 or 3 on every corner! Everywhere you look! :b
Cashmere: Well, I don’t realy “Like” Fast food per se, but I love the convenience. That’s not so good because it’s not really good for me. Lately though we eat more at home because we can’t afford to eat out so much.
Roxie: I hear ya gal! Food and me are like that! X
I don’t know about you guys but that garbage plate looks pretty good to me
S’mores on a stick looked very interesting . . .
LOL Me and food are like that too . . . I’m a foodie who enjoys food, I also love to cook, so eating healthy is just as easy as the bad stuff, but the “bad” stuff tastes so much better to me . . . I could live on chocolate
Interesting website!

That doesn’t even look good to me, probably because it has dairy in it and that makes me really ill.
I do have a love affair with food though, and I think that many Americans do. We take comfort in food. Food is our friend - it never tells us no.
Great post!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
May God bless you and yours.

Busy,,, no time,, running around,, drive thru,, delivery,, let’s meet(at a restuarent) not at the gym,,, actually sitting and writing a response(in another words, using our PC more and more, instead of moving),,, besides most people think that eating fast food is cheaper whereas it is costly(think about it)
great blog love it
Some of the pictures on that site don’t look good at all! They look really gross!
Eww. If I had many of those things on my plate I would go skinny because they would totally turn me off. I am fat because of too much “white” food like sugar, pasta, bread, corn, potatoes, etc.
Great find. It’s always interesting to see what other people eat even if it makes you swear off food for a few days.
