To Regift or Not to Regift, That is the Question!

Published by lilysgramma at 5:58 pm under The Holidays Edit This

The scenerio: You get called at the last minute to attend a dinner for Christmas but you have no money and even if you did, you have no time to go out and buy a gift.  So, you go to the dinner, feeling a bit embarrassed and worried about what you will do when the time for gift giving comes.  You fiddle with your fingers, look in your purse for a tissue and you find… a gift card that someone had given you for your birthday a few weeks earlier that you had forgotten about!  The lightbulb goes on over your head… you ponder if it would be proper… and  you come to the conclusion the YES, this would be a great gift!  It’s a $25.00 gift card for the  new “Whole Foods” store that just opened here! You would like to use it yourself but you REALLY need a gift to give.  Sooooo… what should you do??  You could decide to put the gift card in the envelope with the Christmas card you bought, after all, what’s the difference in giving this as  gift and just buying something else?Or??  What would you do?

Has this happened to you? Are you a regifter?  I personally am not, but I see nothing wrong with regifting an item that you will never use, or that you might have 2 of.  I did find myself in the situation above when my son invited my husband and me to dinner last night.  It was an impromptu Christmas gift from him and his wife and we had no money to reciprocate.  I did not give the gift card to them, but the thought did cross my mind.  We got paid today, so I put more thought into the gift and got what I had planned for them in the first place, and I do feel better about it.  One of the reasons I did not give them the gift card was because my daughter had given it to me a few weeks ago on my birthday and since she was with us last night, I think she would have noticed.  If you have regifted, I would really like to hear your story.

Thank you for reading my blog and I hope you continue to do so. They will only get better as I gain more experience and confidence!  On this note, I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza or whatever it is you celebrate!  To all of you I wish  good will and blessings.

    I’m not a regifter.
I would rather go for the party and give a gift later on. It’s the thought that counts :)
