Fat and 50, Looking for Work

Published by lilysgramma at 4:09 pm under Life, On Being "Weight Challenged" Edit This

Well, I was supposed to have a job interview today but it was cancelled.  That’s ok though, I wasn’t feeling up to the task of being rejected anyway.   I have become so discouraged in this last year trying to find a job, I’m pretty much done with it (IF ONLY!).

Before an interview, I find myself looking into a mirror and thinking “Would I hire me?”  “Will they want someone young and cute for this position?”  I have been a business owner, Office Manager, Administrative Assistant, have done customer service for more than 25 years and have been damn good at all of it. My resume looks good, I get calls when employers see it, so what’s the problem?  This is where my conclusion that it’s either my weight or my age or a combination of both.  If you are an employer, please comment and let me know what I have to do to prove that I would be a great employee!  I am very dependable and being older means I have no children at home that I have to worry about child care for.  I have some health issues that I have doctor’s appointments for occasionally, but nothing that would affect my work.  Come on!  Someone has to give me a break. My unemployment will run out soon and I don’t know what I will do.

If you are an employer, please give us older, overweight women a break!  Men don’t seem to have this issue as often as women do, but I’m sure it happens.  Has this happened to you?  I would like to Know!  Thanks for reading my blog.  Have a great day!
